Latin Audio for Streaming from the Latinum Latin Course

STREAMING INDEX (as of July 2017 - the index is frequently added to)

Don't know where to begin? I recommend that you begin with Comenius' Vestibulum (for vocabulary) and Adler's Practical Grammar; feel free to try out other things too!
I have assigned rough levels to the texts:
BEGINNER
BEGINNER+
INTERMEDIATE
INTERMEDIATE+
ADVANCED
In the Classical Texts provided, Eutropius is easiest, followed by Caesar and Nepos.
The Latin Courses are accessible to beginners.  Adler will be useful to anyone who has only studied Latin using a grammar-translation method. It has been used equally successfully by junior school students and doctoral students with many years of 'technical' Latin under their belts, but no native-type fluency in reading.

Adler's Practical Latin Grammar Audio Course

Adler's Practical Latin Grammar Audio Course contains almost 200 hours of lessons. This is a stand-alone audio course that can be used independently of the textbook. The methodology used is that developed by the French linguist Henri Ollendorff, presented here by George Adler, and modified for audio presentation by Evan der Millner.

Evan der Millner does not simply read the textbook aloud - the audio course he created contains a vast amount of supplementary material and paradigm drills, including copious amounts of additional grammar practice. The audio course is constructed so that it would be able to be used effectively by a blind person.

Sample sentences - of which there are thousands - are read in Latin-English-Latin, and repeated in Latin only. A separate Latin audio review is also available, for use once you have completed the course so that you can periodically refresh your learning.

Adler in audio is a full Latin audio course, and is the online equivalent of a multi-year Latin course. The course can be used as a stand alone course, or as a supplement to your school or university studies. Many Latinum members have used this course to revive the Latin they learned at school many years ago. The course has also been successfully used by Latin teachers who were unused to oral Latin.

$2 a month will give you access to stream the entire Adler course; a higher level tier will allow you to download the course and the below files as well. This audio catalogue is added to regularly; titles in progress are usually advance released on the streaming catalogue during production.

More Latin Psalms in Audio

I am nearing the end of the audio recording of the Vulgate Latin Psalms in Classical Pronunciation. It is thought this is the first audio recording of the Vulgate Latin Psalms using the classical system.

Today I uploaded Psalm 108 through to 140. There are ten more to go.

The first sections are already formatted as downloadable zip files; the third tranche should be added by tomorrow or the day after.

You can find this recording and more at Latinum

Once I have completed the Vulgate Psalms I will begin recording Castellion's more classical translation of the Psalms. This will be the first ever audio edition of Castellion.

I also plan to add, in time, other editions of the Latin Psalms.

Eutropius - Latin Audio paraphrase

Today I completed the recording of chapter 7 of John Stirling's Latin paraphrase of Eutropius.
After working with, and recording a few paraphrases, I am increasingly convinced of their utility as a gateway to fluency - a half way house between student level 'Readers' and the unadulterated classics. This is particularly the case with prose paraphrases of Latin poetry.

A typical chapter of Eutropius takes me about 2 1/2 hours to prepare: firstly, there is the initial silent read through, then the recording. Then, I listen to the recording, and fix any minor errors I come across. Finally I edit the audio to eliminate background noise, and apply a small amount of reverb, edit the metadata, and upload the file to Patreon for your enjoyment.

Adler Latin Audio Course - The Discovery

Way back in 2005, I was trawling google books, looking for a Latin textbook that taught the language as a modern language. I remember clicking through page after page of search results, day after day in my hunt for Latin treasures. .. then one day, on results page 30 or something ( I was persistent) a scan of Adler's Practical Grammar popped up.

Google had just placed it online, with a rather sub standard scan. I got excited. I asked my friends in the academic world if they had ever heard of this amazing book.

No one had. Adler was using a method that was too advanced for his time. His book had fallen into oblivion.

Only 9 copies of the print version survived in libraries scattered across the world. I borrowed the British Library's copy. I saw immediately that this book would make a fantastic Pimsleur type audio course. And so the Latinum Project was born.

Adler is now well known, as is my Adler Audio course, which took me two years of full time work to produce. www.patreon.com/latinum
