Eutropii - Breviarium Historiae Romanae Liber I ad VI 2012 3 hours 24 minutes of audio Books 1 to 6 - from the founding of Rome to the assassination of Julius Caesar. For many centuries, this text was the first Classical work put into the hands of a beginning student of Latin, due to the clarity of Eutropius' style. It fell out of favour in the late 1900's. Flavius Eutropius was a historian who lived in the late 4th century. He was secretary (magister memoriae) at Constantinople, and accompanied the Emperor Julian on his expedition against the Persians (363), and was alive during the reign of Valens (364–378), to whom he dedicates his Breviarium Historiae Romanae and where his history ends. The Breviarium Historiae Romanae is a complete compendium, in ten books, of Roman history from the foundation of the city to the accession of Valens. It was compiled with considerable care from the best accessible authorities, and is written generally with impartiality, and in a clear and simple style.

Maxey's 'New Latin Primer'  2012 This easy text is a reading book, suitable for an intermediate student of Latin. Recorded in 2012 by Molendinarius in restored classical pronunciation. This recording contains just over 2 hours of audio. Each short chapter has its own audio file. This is a relatively easy read, beginning with very simple Latin. The stories and themes in this book run in step with those found in Maxey's 'Cornelia' .  This book contains more about Roman life, with a particular focus on war and things military. It is rare to find a Latin reader such as this, that does not advance too rapidly. Even a more advanced student will derive much benefit from an easy read such as this. Chickering's 'First Latin Reader'

This Latin-only reader is based on the sweep of Roman history. Despite its title, it is not suitable for a modern beginner, but is of upper-intermediate level.




 From chapter one it sets off at a handsome trot, in texts of  increasing difficulty, starting with stories about the  founding of Rome, followed by the Roman Kings, then Coriolanus, Cincinnatus, Camillus, Manlius Torquatus, Phyrrus, Hannibal, Scipio, the Gracchi, Marius, Sulla, Pompeius, Caesar, Cato and finally, a brief description of Cicero's life. 

Each chapter is a separate audio file.

GCSE Latin Vocabulary

Each word is read in English and Latin, so correct quantity is learned naturally. Hundreds of words are presented - this audio material is intended to be listened to multiple times - initially this will be quite tiring, if not utterly bewildering - however, this system will help to build your vocabulary rapidly, and, if refreshed on a monthly basis, the words you have learned will become consolidated. You will not learn all the words on the first listen through - allow yourself to tune in and out, play it to yourself, and let the material teach itself to you. The speech on this recording is hyper-articulated, so it sounds artificial - this is a learning tool. All the pauses between the words have been removed, so progression through the material sounds unnatural - however,with repeated exposure, this material will engrave the vocabulary.

The Latin is presented grammatically in a word order that approximates the English, making translation into English easier for the complete beginner.  'Nature Study Reader ' 

You would get the most out of this book if you had previously studied the Orbis Sensualium Pictus, as the first sections deal with science, the universe, nature, etc. The second part would be easier if you had listened to Taylor's adapted Caesar text, or Lowe's Caesar, if you are a complete beginner.
This reader is unique, in having as a strong focus indirect discourse - right from the beginning, Reynolds starts to introduce it, with imaginary students answering questions on the previous lesson. By the time you reach Caesar, the method of presenting reported speech seems natural.
This is a delightful audiobook. A beginning student, after studying Comenius, will be able to tackle the first half without problems, and after some preliminary study of Caesar, as suggested, the second half will also make for a pleasant experience.

Der Kleine Lateiner is essentially a re-write of Comenian material,with much in common with the Orbis Pictus. It is a useful text to use to revise and consolidate the Orbis Sensualium Pictus, as the wording is often slightly different, but the subject matter will be familiar.

Caesar - The British War ; Customs of the Gauls

This audio coursebook covers:

 Caesar's Bello Gallico

Book 4, chapters 20 -38,

Book 5, Chapters 8 - 23, 
 Book 6, Chapters 12-19.

It covers the two invasions of Britain, and a section discussing the customs of the Gauls, which included the Britons.

The text is read phrase by phrase in Latin-English-Latin, with a literal translation that makes the Latin grammatical structures clear. Each chapter has its own bilingual audio file.


The audiobook also contains separate readings in Latin only, in three audio files, one for each book.

Adler's textbook is possibly the most complete Latin Course ever written.  Adler's textbook was 'lost' and revived in 2007 by Evan der Millner. This audio presentation, originally produced by Evan for the Latinum Podcast,  turns Adler into an immersion experience.

It is unique, in focusing on learning the entire structure of Latin grammar through conversation. With over 191 hours of audio, it is the most comprehensive Latin course of its type in existence, and is excellent value for money. 




Unlike with most Latin courses, with Adler you don't suddenly get 'stuck' as the textbook. After a few easy chapters, most Latin textbooks take sudden leaps forwards. 

With Adler, development is gradual and systematic, although the first couple of lessons do have some difficult grammatical material in the audio course, the actual examples - where most of your learning takes place - are easy.

Each of the 97 lessons is in 3 parts: ( except for the first four lessons, which follow a slightly different arrangement)

1. Grammar and syntax with extensive paradigms added to the text. The grammar is very detailed, with large numbers of additional paradigms and useful memory clues. Vocabulary is presented in advance of every lesson.
2. Model question-answer conversations in Latin-English-Latin. Here you consolidate your vocabulary, and learn the grammatical structures in use.
3. Slow repetition and fast repetition of the conversational material in Latin only, for review.
Once you have mastered section C of any lesson, it is time to move to the next lesson
